EQUITABLE & AGILE EMPLOYMENT

It will get worse before it becomes better. That is what we have been told when it comes to riding the waves of change. But it doesn’t have to be.

In employment, this evolution is not only avoidable but can actually be beneficial for the employees when they learn of the possibilities available to them in the new normal for employment.

In exchange for stability, employees have settled on a system of employment where there are some semblances of security of tenure or "can not be easily fired" as their protection from abuse as imposed on companies. These come as employment regulations by governments through their compliance officers.

This is a far cry from the original design of employment. Employment, in its better days, was based on employee value. Employees offer and deliver value that employers recognize and compensate with good salaries, incentives, and awards. Jobs were not just jobs but missions and crusades that are of value which the company likewise offers to its customers and clients. It wasn't about just the money, survival, and just mere compliance.

The stark evidence of this development is the unprecedented availability of jobs that are higher than the number of applicants willing to apply and work in these jobs. On the reverse angle, there are more qualified applicants for jobs that require only a small portion of what they can really do. As such, the issue and solution can be boiled down into its most basic foundation - relationships. Companies are not looking for long-term relationships with employees but employees are still looking for it from employers. Back then, companies can plan 20 years ahead. Now, the maximum they can accurately project is 6 months. Not anyone’s fault but evolution is just always around the corner because of technological advancements and globalization. We can’t fault the companies for being careful about their hiring because the employees are protected by employment laws that are designed to keep them employed.

There is no one to blame and the system still works - but not for long. Both businesses and society are evolving and the demand for a more equitable solution is growing. Companies wish to remain competitive so they continue to squeeze the employees while the employees can't see their future beyond their periodic paychecks.

One of the many parts of the solution is AGILE EMPLOYMENT. Agile employment is about actively brokering careers and futures for the employees through many-to-many working relationships between pools of workers and pools of companies. These work best for labor jobs that are yet to be automated. But embracing it will be good for the whole workforce including even the knowledge workers and other professional disciplines.

AGILE EMPLOYMENT addresses the present needs of employees for being financially productive and prepares them for a planned and directed future together with the employees and their industries.

The value of the employees changes from being hands, eyes, feet, and physical strength for doing work into technology partners and operators who move from accomplishing 700 widgets a day to 7 million widgets a day by learning and embracing automation.

A major objective for AGILE EMPLOYMENT is to prepare the Americas, the highest consuming society in the world, for the successful and painless return of manufacturing from foreign countries due to advances in automation. This is a new form of localization and at the same time, a smarter way of globalization.
